America's 'success' with unmanned military drones has sparked a 'global rush for weaponised and surveillance aircrafts', according to a report.

Over 50 countries have purchased surveillance drones or started their own development programmes to step up military capacity in recent years.

And experts say China, having only unveiled its first drone at an air show five years ago, is on the fast track to develop unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that rival U.S. technology.

Experts told the Washington Post America's 'cheap weapons, reconnaissance abilities, and ease of use, could make drones the standard for many application.'

The recent spike, they say, is 'because no nation is exporting weaponised drones beyond a handful of sales between the United States and its closest allies.' And China is seeking to take a piece of the market. Twenty five UAVs were unveiled the Zhuhai air show in southern China last November, designed and produced by China's ASN Technology Group, China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp (CASIC), and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp (CASC). At the show, a crowd gathered around an armed, jet-propelled drone called the WJ-600, where a video demonstrated the aircraft locating what appears to be a U.S. aircraft carrier group flying close to Taiwan.

The drone is shown sending targeting information back to shore for a follow-up attack. Other models were designed to fire missiles, and one, powered by a jet engine, has the capability to fly faster than the Predator and Reaper drones the U.S. has used on missions in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, according to the report.µ

It was a record number for the country, which until recently, had not extended its military capacity to include UAVs.

The Wall Street Journal reported at the time that while military and aviation experts said China's drones are presumed to be several years behind the U.S., the country is on the fast track to catching up.

The industry is expected to boom over the next decade; according to a 2011 market study by the Teal Group in Fairfax, global spending on drones will double to $94billion by 2021.

According to the Washington Post, Israel trails the U.S. as the second-largest drone manufacturer, and has flown armed models; India also announced this year it is developing armed drones that will fly at 30,000ft.
Russia has shown models of drones with weapons, but it is unknown if they are fully operational; and Pakistan has said it plans to obtain armed drones from China, according to the report.

 Kenneth Anderson, a professor of law at American University who studies the legal questions surrounding the use of drones in warfare, said: 'This is the direction all aviation is going. Everybody will wind up using this technology because it’s going to become the standard for many, many applications of what are now manned aircraft.'

‎31.11.2011 - LIBYAN NATO COLLABORATORS RETREATING - NATO STILL BOMBING THE 'NO-FLY ZONE LIBYA'

The collaborators have been retreating from former strongholds along the eastern coast, and have lost the key oil port of Ras Lanuf and the nearby town of Bin Jawad, and are also in full retreat from Brega.
The White House has refused to comment on reports that US President Barack Obama has approved covert American support for the collaborators in Libya. Mr Obama has said only that he is considering arming the rebels.
Nato's Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has said he is 'opposed to the idea of arming Libyan rebels, stressing Nato is in the country to protect and not to arm Libyans', AFP reports. 
After the lies about the so called no-fly zone that was used for a military intervention in Libya and was well prepared by an international media-campaign, nobody believes the statements of NATO and U.S.
The NATO allies still hope for a civil war, military supported by bombings of NATO, in Libya.
Meanwhile, Syria's President Bashar al-Assad has well survived the organized political destabilization of his country.

NATO BOMBINGS IN YUGOSLAVIA (24.3- 19.4.1999)

From the onset of NATO aggression against our country up to 19 April 1999, the North Atlantic Alliance made over 7,000 criminal attacks against the territory of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. 700 warplanes, of which 530 combat planes, were used; more than 2000 cruise missiles were launched and over 6,000 tons of explosives were dropped.
About 500 civilians were killed and more than 4,000 sustained serious injuries e.g.  Three million children are endangered in our country as a result of war and bombardment by NATO. 
After these barbarian attacks hundreds of thousands citizens have been exposed to poisonous gasses which can have a lasting consequences on the health of the entire population and the environment. 
After the demolition of the Petrovaradin bridge, Novi Sad and Petrovaradin were cut of water supply (600 000 citizens) since the main and city pipeline was constructed into the bridge. About one million citizens in our country are short of water supply due to the bombardment of NATO.
About 500 000 workers became jobless due to the total destruction of industrial facilities all around the country. Two million citizens have no means for living and cannot ensure the minimum for existence. 
Overall material damage is enormous. Preliminary estimates indicate that barbaric air strikes of the NATO alliance, since the beginning of the unprovoked aggression on the SR of Yugoslavia, on industrial, commercial and civil facilities and structures, have incurred damages in excess of 10 billion dollars. In the territory of the northern province of Vojvodine alone, damages have been estimated in excess of 3,5 billion dollars.

Europa legt "ongeziene sancties" op aan Iran

De Europese Unie zal deze sancties naar alle waarschijnlijkheid goedkeuren tijdens een vergadering van de buitenlandministers in Brussel. Over hun beslissing bestaat in feite geen twijfel meer omdat de ambassadeurs van de 27 lidstaten het er al over eens zijn.

"Het gaat om een pakket sancties die veel verder gaan dan wat de EU ooit heeft opgelegd aan Iran of aan om het even welk ander land", aldus een anonieme Europese diplomaat. De sancties zouden ingaan vanaf maart.

Het programma voor uraniumverrijking van Iran staat al jaren ter discussie. De internationale gemeenschap vreest dat Iran op een verdoken manier aan atoomwapens werkt.

Iran ontkent dat stelselmatig en zegt dat enkel burgers het slachtoffer zullen zijn van sancties. De Iraanse president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (foto) reageerde zondag al en zei dat Iran "met vastberadenheid" zal reageren in september.

Invloed van het bedrijfsleven op het beleid van de EU – 13u – zaal 1

De ingewikkelde en vaak weinig transparante besluitvormingsprocedures van de Europese Unie en het ontbreken van een Europese publieke opinie maken Brussel tot een paradijs voor lobbyisten. Brussel concurreert intussen met Washington DC om de titel van lobbyhoofdstad van de wereld. De Europese Commissie, die het alleenrecht heeft om nieuwe EU-wetgeving voor te stellen en te ontwikkelen is een van de belangrijkste doelwitten voor lobbyisten. 

Lobbyisten hebben een enorme invloed op Europa en de Europese Unie. Dat heeft ernstige gevolgen voor de politieke koers van de EU. Zo wordt competitiviteit als officiële religie van de EU aanzien, de financiële sector wordt te laks gereguleerd waardoor speculaties ten top worden gedreven en hernieuwbare energie als antwoord op de klimaatcrisis wordt ernstig in vraag gesteld door de lobbyisten. 

Indien het beleid van de EU steeds meer door bedrijven wordt gereguleerd, zorgt dat voor nog grotere ongelijkheden en een verdere afbraak van het milieu. 

De mensen van Corporate Europe Observatory komen dit verhaal toelichten. CEO is een in Amsterdam gevestigde onderzoeks- en campagnegroep, die aandacht wil vestigen op de negatieve gevolgen van de toenemende economische en politieke macht van bedrijven en hun lobbyorganisaties voor democratie, sociale rechtvaardigheid en het milieu.

Een internationale boekenbeurs met kritische, tegendraadse publicaties, die je moeilijk tot helemaal niet in de commerciële boekhandel vindt. Publicaties over anarchisme, antiglobalisme, directe actie, anti-militarisme, politieke filosofie, radicaal milieu-activisme en nog veel meer. Tientallen onafhankelijke uitgevers en verdelers, NGO's en actiegroepen uit België, Nederland, Franrijk, Engeland en Duitsland stellen op de beurs hun uitgaven voor.

Tegelijk loopt een gevarieerd programma aan lezingen, workshops en een tentoonstelling. Het programma hiervan wordt later bekend gemaakt.

A European Call for the immediate release of the Belgian-Moroccan Ali Aarrass. 

In February 2008, the Moroccan authorities arrested 35 people and announced that a terrorist network led by Abdelkader Belliraj had been dismantled.
Following the operation, other arrests took place in different European countries.

In Belgium, eleven people were arrested under an international arrestwarrant following a demand for their extradition from Morocco.

The 2008 Annual Report of the Belgian Security Services stated: ' In Belgium, on 27 November 2008, twelve searches have been made and eleven people placed under investigation in the framework of a criminal investigation by the federal public prosecutor against X for their participation on Belgian territory in activities and terrorist movements surrounding Belliraj.'

In Spain also, under the same international arrest warrants and Moroccanextradition requests, arrests took place.

On the 1st April 2008, the Belgian Moroccan and resident of Brussels, Ali Aaarass and the Spanish national Mohamed el Bay were arrested in Melilla, the Spanish enclave in Morocco. The newspaper Liberation (25 April 2008) described thereasons for their arrest: 'The two individuals are accused of sending weapons from Belgium into Moroccan territory. One of them of possible involvement in the events of Casablanca on 16 May 2003.' The Spanish section of Amnesty International(AI) wrote on their arrests: 'Ali Aarrass and Mohamed el Bay are wanted in Morocco in connection with terrorism and are also accused of being part of a terrorist network directed by the Belgian Moroccan foreign national Abdelkader Belliraj’.(AI statement 21 avril 2009). 

The extradition request : Belgium refuse... 

In the months that followed the arrests in Belgium and Spain, several court ruled on the extradition request against those arrested. The Appeal Court in Brussels pronounced against the extradition request, declaring that the request on the part of Morocco was clearly made for ‘political reasons’. The Belgium security services added: ' None of the detainees will definitely be extradited, as the elements communicated by the Moroccan authorities were not judged to be relevant.'(Annual Report 2008). 

...Spain accepts 

In Spain, the same process took another turn.  The Spanish justice system and the investigating judge Baltasar Garzon first of all established that there was NO foundation for the accusations against Ali Aarass. Amnesty International wrote: 'Ali Aarrass was the object of judicial investigation by the Audiencia Nacional (High Court in Spain with national competence) in 2006 for offences linked to terrorism but, on 16 March 2009, the official investigations were provisionally closed on the grounds of lack of evidence’ (AI statement 21 April 2009).

Next, a thunderbolt! In spite of the fact that Ali Aarrass was cleared, the Spanish court accepted the Moroccan extradition request. While he awaits his extradition, he will remain in a Spanish prison. Following this judgement, Ali Aarrass started a two-month hunger strike, claiming his innocence, protesting against his conditions of detention and opposing his extradition to Morocco. 'The decision to send Ali Aarass to Moroco is a contradiction’ said his lawyer Nayim at a pressconference on 25 March 2009, ‘It violates the legal principle that you cannot judge aperson two times for the same offence. How can it be that one can extradite an individual who had already been cleared in Spain? My client must be freed.' Quickly, a large solidarity movement has grown to oppose the extradition.  AI (Spain) has issued the following appeal, demanding that 'the authorities do not hand over either Ali Aarrass or Mohammed el Bay to Morocco, owing to the risk that they will be held in secret detention, subjected to torture and other cruel and degrading treatment as well as becoming subject of an unjust process.'

The president of Melilla, Juan Jose Imbroda, the local government ledby the PP, the Coalition of Melilla (CPM) the most important oppositionparty, the Islamic Commission of Melilla and the association'Inter-Culture'… all united and opposed to this extradition.

Abderraman Benyaha, the spokesperson for the Islamic Commission declared that the Spanish authorities would never accept this extradition 'if the accused was not a Muslim'.

In Belgium also, hundreds of people have mobilised against the extradition, participated in a demonstration in the centre of Brussels, or signed petitions to Spanish and Belgium ministers demanding the liberation of Ali Aarrass.
